Fall Is in The Air, I Can Smell It

So first I tell you about my fall fashion faves, and now I’m blabbering on about autumnal things again. Think I’m ready for a season change? After the long and windy road of this summer (which will forever be known as The Summer of Real Estate), the answer is yes. As I’m writing tonight, I have my office window propped open here in Seattle, and there’s a cool breeze spilling in–cool as in, it has a little bite to it. I love it. Don’t get me wrong, I think summer is fine, but I absolutely love fall. The sweaters. The leaves. The wood-burning fire smell. The pumpkins. The pumpkin-spice muffins, lattes (P.S. They’ve just arrived at Starbucks!), well, anything pumpkin-flavored. Squash, of all kinds. Fall TV shows. Slower-paced evenings. Candle light. Soup. Apples and cinnamon. The countdown to Christmas. Rain boots. Scarves. I’ll take them all. (I’m not alone, other bloggers seem to be bitten by fall too, like Stephanie, who keeps the beautiful blog Nie Nie Dialogues). More ramblings, and an update…

Today was an odd day of mismatched things, and when I look back on it, it hardly makes sense actually. Did this all happen in one day? I blogged, finished an article, took the boys out for sushi (Carson: avocado rolls; Me: veggie rolls and tofu; Russell: plum puree and fussiness), where Carson ate two huge plates of sushi and Russell refused to sit in his high chair–why, when he’d rather yank my hair out and smear baby food all over my face (yes, true story). We averted a major incident at Pottery Barn, when Carson almost toppled over a glass vase (good catch mom). On the drive home, I had a conversation with our real estate agent. The verdict: Our Seattle home isn’t selling as quick as we hoped. It’s a bummer, but I feel a strange sort of peace about it. More on that in a future post. But, for now, our contingency on the Bainbridge Island home is ending soon (boo hoo), and we’ll give our house sale another few weeks, and then hit the reset button.

Fast forward to the afternoon: Blogged some more. Got a new magazine assignment (yay), cleaned the kitchen (because life feels a thousand times better when the kitchen is clean), chased around the baby in his new walker (he’s obsessed with the wine rack; in particular a nice gold-foil covered bottle of champagne which he is hell bent on grabbing) and played dinosaurs with Carson. Soccer class was next, which translates into a bunch of 2 year olds kicking balls and running around a field for a half hour while the parents cheer and look on (this does not make me–in any way shape or form–a soccer mom), then home for dinner (spinach salad with smoked trout–random), family time, and catching up with the October issue of Glamour (I have an article on page 160–check it out!)

So, fall is coming. I’m excited. Are you an autumn lover as I am? Hugs and sweet dreams. xo

I was just thinking about this the other day. Fall has always been a good season for me. I just dont have good luck in summer time! (Over various summer seasons I’ve: been laid off, totaled a car, been broken up with, father passed away). For some, Spring marks new beginnings, for me its always been fall. New classes, new friends etc.

Favorite things about Fall: The clothes! (Jewel tones, textures, layering, LOVE it!) The food! Pumpkin lattes, Octoberfest Beers, pies, turkeys…and finally (I live near the beach in San Diego), all the tourists leave! My sleeply little community returns to its laid back glory. Fall? Bring it on!
