After we got the keys, we brought the kids over to the houseboat to have dinner–so fun! (For the complete backstory on the houseboat, click here.) It was a heavenly evening, and here are some random photos to share:
(P.S. Um, so, yeah, I really don’t sit around reading my own books!
I had to take this for a magazine piece that needed a photo of me with the book, and I loved how sparkly the water looked in the background.)
(Below: He took his life jacket off for a split second, and I made him put it back on after this was taken!)
On the bookshelf in the houseboat I found my friend Margaret Dilloway’s lovely novel, How to Be An American Housewife!

I’m just so excited for you. Living the dream, for sure! I love that photo with you with your book and the explanation why you took it. So cute! Okay, I’m bringing the brie when I visit!
It’s so funny because just yesterday (labor day) I went on a Ride the Ducks tour with my sister who is the only female duck captain (she drives em!!). Yesterday was her last day and my family’s first tour, and we were all admiring the house boats. She was trying to point out the one from Sleepless in Seattle
Have so much fun out there!
Looks like a wonderful family time. Enjoy!!!
Now I’m dreaming of visiting a houseboat!
THAT IS AMAZING!! I am so excited for you and to read this book!!
Love these photos!! xo
Living the dream, Sarah!
Life isn’t easy, but it’s the joys like your houseboat & your sweet boys that make it so rich. Love it. Enjoy!
Love the photos! Smart idea making them wear the lifejackets. I passed up buying a home by the lake when my boys were little (even removed a little fish pond from the yard), because I was worried about drowning. I had two boys then, and one on the way. Eventually I had 5 boys altogether. It’s difficult to keep a good eye on them when they’re running in different directions, lol!
So lovely!
Don’t you need a live-in writing partner or something? Someone…ahem…that will keep you on track and not out frolicking in a kayak somewhere? I would be glad to volunteer for that arduous task.
Have fun and thanks for sharing another episode of “Houseboat Happenings.”
I so want to visit Seattle. It looks so beautiful there. Have you ever posted about what things you would recommend?
The whole post makes me smile!
Heaven? It really does look fantastic. I’m going on a trip to US in the future (well, yes, when I’ll earn some money!) and surely visit Seattle above all coz it reminds me of romantic stories. Now I’m just waiting for the Polish version of your next book! It’s going to be 2013 probably but worth waiting
Hugssssss from a fan living in UK. ;<
After the kids are in bed, now you just need to watch Cary Grant and Sophia Loren in Houseboat to make the evening complete.
So fun to see Darren with the baby…
What a beautiful adventurous place.
Autumn greetings all the way from Finland, from a little lake.
